Overview

We weren’t expecting much due to lack of popularity on review sites. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and elements of the food.

Value

Between the view, the food, the friendly service and the creativity of the dishes we felt Cliffside held value.

3 most popular dishes

Chili-glazed salmon, 4 cheese pear pasta, and the chicken fried chicken.

What I ordered

Coconut shrimp, macadamia-crusted cod, a coriander salmon special, and the 4 cheese pear pasta.

Food quality

The quality was great. Most restaurants in the area pale in comparison to the ingredients and cooking styles used.

Coconut crusted shrimp – The shrimp was a little overcooked but the citrus sauce served with it was a nice addition.

Macadamia-crusted cod – this came with coconut jasmine rice and broccolini and was drizzled with an orange butter sauce. The fish was succulent and light.

Coriander salmon special – this came with sweet potato wedges, asparagus, and a beurre blanc sauce. There were a lot of sweet potatoes but they were cooked well. The asparagus was trimmed properly and didn’t contain woody pieces. The beurre blanc sauce added a creaminess to the flaky salmon.

4 cheese pear pasta – a bit sweet but well-balanced flavor with al dente pasta. The balsamic reduction and tomato cream sauce gave it depth and added to the heartiness of the dish.

Ambiance

The server was friendly and the space was simple yet elegant. The view was great of the St. George valley and the environment seemed modern.

What I liked most

The ambiance, the value, and the creativity of the dishes.

What I disliked most

The wait was a bit long but it was okay considering everything is made fresh to order. Our server also lacked proper education to describe the details of our dishes prior to ordering. When describing the coriander salmon dish he referred to it as “meaty” and had trouble describing the flavors. I prefer my fish flakey.

The verdict

Fantastic food for a good value with a great view! This is a great spot for a special occasion or a nice date. I imagine we’ll be going back here.
