Prelude

We first tried this restaurant back in April 2019 and didn’t have the best experience with their burger. After posting about it, London’s Executive Chef, Matthew Anderson, apologized and invited us back so we could get the real experience. I have to say, we must have simply come on a bad night because their food was top notch on the second go!

Overview

Opened late 2018, London Belle Supper Club is a 21 and older bar, restaurant, and lounge named after Dora B. Topham, Utah’s notorious madam of the Stockade.  Nicknamed “Belle London,” she ran a government-sanctioned brothel out of Ogden’s Electric Alley back in the early 1900s. With Belle’s exotic tale and Regent Street’s historic architecture, you’ll be immersed in a boudoir style supper club; to eat, drink, socialize, lounge and on certain nights, dance.

Value

London Belle provides premium liquor and top notch cooking to customers who walk through their colossal iron door. For those looking for a quick snack and a cocktail, a small plate to socialize around, a job-promotion big entree served with a round of drinks, this place has it all. Therefore, you won’t find the value menu at this local joint.

Most popular dishes

La Charcuterie, Boneless Wings, Brothel Burger, Salomon B.L.T., Bison Short Rib, The “London”, a 12 oz Prime Niman Ranch Ribeye, and the Pepitas-Crusted Sea Scallops. If you’re a seafood lover, a couple next to us highly suggested the fresh “Ceviche”.

What I ordered

Honey Harissa Boneless Wings, Brothel Burger, Bison Short Rib, Fried Chicken Ham and Cheese Sandwich.

Food quality

Honey Harissa Boneless Wings: They were lightly battered, then tossed with a sweet tangy sauce accompanied with creamy cucumber dressing for dipping.

The Brothel Burger: The beef comes from Niman Ranch which is 100% Angus beef and fed a vegetarian diet. It was grilled to medium well topped with mixed greens, vine tomatoes, roasted sweet onions, pickled peppers, grain bourbon mustard, ketchup, and cheese.  I could not taste the grilled onions, peppers or mustard with each bite, however, I enjoyed the promontory cheddar cheese.

Fried Chicken Ham and Cheese Sandwich: It’s topped with smoked ham, fried buttermilk chicken thigh, swiss, vine tomatoes, frisee, viking mustard and cornichon (pickles). The toppings were simple and delicious. The chicken was juicy and tender but I did not get the crispy bite from the buttermilk fried chicken. We also could not keep our fingers away from the side of crispy battered fries.

Bison Short Rib: This no-knife required short-rib was our most favorite. It was served with a sweet huckleberry sauce, potato mashers, sauteed asparagus, carrots, and scallions to make each bite a tender indulgence. My spouse and I kept our forks deep in this dish and polished the plate clean. Truly something I would not have thought to order without their recommendation.

Ambiance

London Belle Supper Club is a dimly lit urban establishment, with tall rustic cabinets, velvet upholstery, leather backed barstools, historic downtown brick walls, a long granite top bar, chandeliers, and steel rod wall art. The bartenders wear black with untied purple bow-ties, female servers wear boudoir styled purple corsets.

What I liked most

Servers and managers check tables often to make sure you have what you need to enjoy your outing. Since London Belle is not a dine and dash restaurant we did not feel rushed to leave and could enjoy our evening talking and lounging after we ate. We savored the Boneless Wings, Bison Short Rib and crispy fries.

What I disliked most

The Fried Chicken Ham and Cheese Sandwich lacked the crunch we desired. My spouse didn’t care for the peppers on the Brothel Burger as they were overpowering.

The verdict

Due to Utah’s religious culture, bars are often overlooked by food explorers looking for excellent cuisine throughout the state. Executive Chef Matthew Anderson has an award-winning menu that is often neglected by clubbers who come into London Belle Supper Club. Everything we ordered tasted of high caliber and we will be back for their new summer menu for 2019.  If you would like the dining experience go during the early evening hours to avoid the weekend party groups. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this menu.
